Increase Blog Traffic Series

Being a guest blogger on another blog is a good idea to increase your traffic. I wrote a post about being a guest blogger earlier but I thought this should not be left out in this series.

Actually I have already done both types of guest blogging. I wrote an article for canimakebigmoneyonline.com which was real fun, especially as it was the very first time for me writing for another blog.
Second, I had Veronica Routtu to be a guest blogger here on my blog. Please read her article Duplicate Content Mistakes You Must Avoid For Top Rankings and leave a comment about how you liked it. It is her first guest blogging post, so feedback on it will be appreciated.

Pros and Cons of guest blogging
Erik Karey over at erikkarey.com wrote a post about the pros and cons of guest blogging. In short, he listed up the following pros:

  • Having other people blogging as a guest enables you to take a short break or go on a vacation and keep your blog running, while you are away.
  • Being a guest blogger helps you gaining more visibility and exposure of your blog. And you will get a link back to your blog as well.
  • The readers may enjoy a new, fresh perspective by another blogger. Maybe they are discovering a new blog, they love to read from now on.

But there are some cons too. Here is what Erik said on them:

  • Bloggers have to choose a guest blogger wisely and keep an eye on the quality being delivered with the guest post.
  • Writing not only for your own blog, but for others too can add up to some real work if you want to keep up good quality.
  • Do the readers get the best they can? Or is the guest blogger only giving away an article which seems to be not good enough for his own blog?

What you get from being a guest blogger
First, when you get the opportunity to guest blog on somebody else´s blog, it means, you are taken serious as some kind of expert. Take the chance and give guest blogging a try. (Want to guest blog here?)

You will reach a whole new audience. Depending on the blog, your post is published there could be hundreds or event thousands of readers that did not know you before. Introduce yourself and your expertise to them by delivering the best post, you ever wrote.
Besides you getting one more link back to your blog, you will get some new daily readers for it. It´s kind of free advertising.

Go and find a blog
You want to get the most out of your work of writing an article for another blog, right? You´ll have to choose the right blog for your guest post.
Look at the RSS-Feeds you are reading regularly and find some covering the topic you want to write about. As you have chosen to subscribe to them, this should be an easy task. Maybe you have already contacted on of these bloggers and can shoot them an email without feeling to spam them.

It is not a good idea to contact someone and ask for a possibility to guest post on his or her blog if they don´t even know, who you are. Some bloggers are actively looking for guest bloggers and have this announced on their blogs. Feel free to contact these bloggers.

Bryan Clark over at onemansgoal.com writes about 5 benefits of guest-blogging too and he welcomes guest posters on his blog as well as I do.
