Increasing traffic is not the only goal of this series. What we need is targeted traffic. Want some targeted traffic for free? Then, sphinn.com (pronounced *spin*) could be for you.
If your blog covers general internet marketing topics or blogging, seo and so on and maybe has many other bloggers as its readers, chances are, that Sphinn will work for you.
It is titled:
Sphinn: News, Discussion Forums & Networking For Search & Internet Marketing Professionals
and they describe the site this way:
Sphinn is the place for web, online, search, interactive and internet marketers to share news stories, talk within subject-specific discussion forums, build a network and stay informed of upcoming events.
A social site for people around the internet marketing topic. That´s, what it is.
How can you get traffic from sphinn.com?
Sphinn.com basically works a lot like digg. Articles are being posted to it and people can click on a button to vote for the story. (Noticed the blue sphinn button in the top left corner of this post?)
As on digg, most traffic comes in, when you get your post to the front page, which is called Hot Topics on Sphinn. Best of all, you do not need hundreds or thousands of votes to get there. By the time I´m writing this, most of the articles on the front page do have less than 30 votes, which are called sphinns over there.
I´ve had some of my posts being sphunn recently, and I notice some good traffic from it. By now, it´s still too less traffic to get some real metrics about its quality.
Get the Sphinn plugin
Michelle MacPhearson comes with a nice sphinn WordPress plugin for getting your blog ready for sphinn. Just visit Michelle and download the sphinn plugin.
After installation, just choose where you´d like the sphinn button to be placed on your posts, and that´s it.
Now, go and join sphinn.com
Sphinn.com is not too old by now, but it is fast moving forward. Now that you know, how easy it is to get your blog ready for sphinn.com and the targeted traffic it can deliver to you, why not register with them?
After that, consider visiting my profile and… Hey, it´s a social site, you know what to do.

When an article I’ve written really clicks I have received very good traffic from Sphinn. I am a fan as well, but more people need to be made aware of it!

Marco and Courtney is agree that Sphinn is great. I also agree that more people need to use it. Sphinn right now seems to be a tight knit community that is hard to break into. I see that same blogs’ article make the front page.

You´re right Fred. More users would make sphinn.com even better. Though I would not want to everybody become a member on sphinn. Traffic wouldn´t be as targeted anymore. Thus, I receive far more visitors from StumbleUpon these days, traffic from sphinn.com is raising continously.

I’m also enjoying Sphinn. To be honest I don’t get all that much traffic from it but what I find is that many of the poeple who Sphinn my post will also Stumble it and that *does* bring in a lot of traffic. What I like though are the stories - I can keep totally up to date on the industry via Sphinn.

Sphinn rocks. You know there’s going to be a lot of other competitors now. Gooruze.com is already trying to play against ‘em.

I haven’t tried Sphinn on my blog yet - but it is something I have been meaning to look into. This is a good introduction.
