tnx.net - Is it for you?

Linkbuilding » Trackback-URL Leave a Comment »

Tnx.net is a text link advertisting platform which brings publishers and advertisers together. They are following a somewhat new model of compensation as they are using points. You can get points for display text ads on your website and spend these points to have your ads being displayed on other sites.

TNX.net

As a publisher
TNX enables you to sell links to a large database of advertisers. You are not restricted to sell links only on your homepage, you can sell them on each and every single page of your website.
First step is to register with tnx.net. Registration is easy and does only require username and password of your choice plus your Full Name and eMail. That´s it.

After login to you new account, you´ll find a toolbox on the left sidebar which looks like this:

TNX Toolbar

Add your first site to have it approved by tnx.net, which takes 1-3 days.

After your site has been approved, advertisers can purchase links on your site using points, which can be viewed as an internal currency on TNX. These points will be credited to your account, based on the PR of the page(s) the ads are being showed.
You can use the point for advertising on other websites, or you can redeem them for cash payment using PayPal.

TNX homepage

Freebies
You can get 7.000 points for free to test the system easily. You will be credited the first 5.000 point, just upon approval of your site. Than, go to this thread at the DP Forums and leave your Nickname and TNX-ID for another 2.000 points bonus.

You can get 7.000 links from PR0 pages with 7.000 points or 70 links from PR2 or 7 links from PR5 pages. Enough to test the system if it fits your needs.

Affiliate program
TNX also has an affiliate program in place. You will earn 13.3% of your referals income everytime a link is being sold on their sites.
Example: Your referal sells a link on his site for 1000 points. He or she will receive 75% of this i.e., 750 points and YOU will get 100 points, which is 13.3% of your referals income.

I think TNXs approach on using points instead of cold hard cash makes the system more flexible. You could choose to reinvest parts of your income into new links, and have the rest paid to your PayPal account. I am testing the system on some of my other sites, and will be reporting how it worked for me in the future.

Viral Recommendation Carousel

Blogging, Linkbuilding » Trackback-URL 33 Comments »

Today I would like to share a little experiment with the blogosphere. Viral linking is a very good way to raise your rankings with technorati and - even more important - google and other search engines. If you try to make money from your blog, an extended structure of incoming links is vital for you.

Get the traffic and the link love
The recommendation carousel will bring like-minded bloggers together and provide real value to their respective communities. The whole web2.0-thing is about communities sharing their knowledge and what is common.

– copy and paste from this line (including the line) —

Why this will work

  • It provides value through personal recommendations
  • Links to your blog with linktext of your choice
  • Backlinks come from within a dedicated content about your blog
  • Rotating content will prevent it from penalties from search engines
  • It is viral - more participants means greater effect

How it works
Simply follow these few steps to make this one working for you:

  • Create a new post on your blog and start it with a few words about how you came into this carousel.
  • Copy and paste the entire text between the red lines
  • Check if all links are working after copy and paste
  • Remove the very last recommendation from the list
  • Add a recommendation of a blog you love to the top of the list with at least 2-3 sentences about why you love to read this blog and add a little note, that you recommend this together with a link to your blog. Here is an example:

MarcoRichter.net is a blog, I love to read on a daily basis. It provides latest information about blogging, linkbuilding and blog seo issues. From detailed how-to articles to some ultimate ressource lists, Marco covers a wide variety of information for your daily blogging routine. Recommended by: Marco Richter

Blogs I recommend because I love to read them daily:

  • canimakebigmoneyonline.com - run by George Manty is the definite ressource when it comes to monetizing your blog. Being more than 2 years on the scene, there are several hundreds of articles on making money online. Take your time to read through them all - it´s worth it. Recommended by: Marco Richter

  • OneMansGoal.com - run by Bryan Clark is a good stop for bloggers wanting to learn more about generating visitors for their own blogs. He adds some time management topics for those among us looking for optimization of their daily routine. Recommended by: Marco Richter

  • topsecretblogger.com - This one is a completely community driven project. Everyone is invited to sign up and write a post on the blog. Many contest will be attracting other bloggers to come in and join the project. I think this will become even more influential in the future, it´s definitely worth taking a closer look. Recommended by: Marco Richter

  • probloggersmatrix.com - Mark´s blog is well-established and concentrates on topics about the relationship between bloggers and their readers. His posts are often titled as questions, what helps starting a conversation with the audience. Recommended by: Marco Richter

  • jtpratt.com - run by John Pratt is a quite new blog about blogging mistakes and how to avoid them. John has been running websites for more than 10 years, so he knows about the hard way to learn from mistakes. Recommended by: Marco Richter

  • ryanshamus.com - Ryan Shamus is helping bloggers along the way according to his blog´s claim. Stay updated about the blogosphere and topics on money making with this blog. Recommended by: Marco Richter

This carousel has been started by Marco Richter on viral linkbuilding - the basic concept is a slightly adjusted version of Alex Sysoef´s reciprocal review carousel.

– copy and paste up to this line (including the line) —

Feel free to join the carousel and provide recommendations of your favorite blogs to the community. Do not forget to let them know about your recommendation, chances are, they will join the carousel as well. Then just sit back and watch your rankings rising and the traffic coming in, just by the power of viral linking.

What is Linkbaiting?

Linkbuilding » Trackback-URL 4 Comments »

In SEO this word often gets passed round but not too many people do have a clear view of what Linkbaiting can do for their website. Searching for Linkbaiting at google does not really reveal valuable information on how to use it for pushing a website.
So, we will take a close look on how Linkbaiting can help you achieve your goals.

Definition
Linkbait essentially is a piece of content on a website. This can be a blogpost, an article, a photo or a video or whatever. It is published specifically for gathering incoming links from other websites.
This can be really simple sometimes. In theory, all you need is an interesting page within your site and someone who notices this page and a few people who share the link. This can lead to hundreds or even thousands of incoming links to this page which should really bring your site towards the top. Jim Boykin provides even more details about this. Or read the Linkbaiting case study on searchenginejornal.com.

Linkbaiting Techniques
Darren Rowse has posted a series of articles about Linkbaiting Techniques and he also gives a good introduction to linkbaiting and explores the possible motivations for it.
There are many possibilities for linkbaiting as you can see in Darrens series. Whether you create a new tool or a widget for bloggers which they love or you post a story about a very cool video you have found. You will always find many people who will feature it on their sites and will post a link to yours.
You could also post a contrary point of view to popular topics like Mike Grehan did when he posted an article on clickz.com where he pointed out, that he does not believe the google sandbox really exists. Yahoo´s Site Explorer counts 134 Backlinks to this article alone. Not too bad.

Is this really new?
As Linkbaiting simply means creating content which attracts readers and links to that content, I think this is not really a new idea. When I launched my first website back in 1998 which used to be a site offering job opportunities from companies who where really exciting in the dotcom-bubble, I learned that it was most important to build up visibility on the web. Therefore I had to attract links and visitors. So, kind of deja-vu? Jason Hendricks calls it a new name for an old rule and I think he exactly gets the point.

Linkbaiting as a viral idea
Viral marketing and Linkbaiting are not that different. For both it needs an interesting point - in our case this would be some kind of webcontent - and some people who share it with more and more people.
But what makes it viral? Seth Godin has the answer, he wrote a nice article about what it takes to make an idea a viral idea.

Finally, linkbaiting is of course worth doing it - even it is not really a new idea. Cartoon Barry tries to determine a pricing model for it. For myself, I will try to figure out something for testing purposes. If you like to help, please link to this article. :-)

Hey, it works. Thanks for your support.
